I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Abandoned farms
Such places decay in the silence
Feint cries of the starving fox
Piercing arrows that fall
Amongst the tall pines
Under jealous skies peering
Far from the asphalt jungles
Corrugated doors of steel
Once locked down
Are as closed eyes slumbering
Condensation upon the concrete
Serve as the artificial tears
Banging within the hollows
As if to represent thunder in some way
Only magnifies the madness
I am sure the skies there are just as blue
The sun is just as bright
The stars and moon shine as always
But I am the wandering man
Returning to the abandoned place
Yet it calls out in the still night
The rhythmic tantrum of tires upon the road
Painted lines upon the road pass by quickly
In the night
Its keen pull upon my heart strings
As though it were a tugging of the reins upon a steed
So is the hart upon the grassy plains
Whose desire to return to the safety of its den
Just one single tear falls upon my cheek
As I fight back the tremendous flow
From within
They are not tears of sadness
Bur rather in anticipation of the spark
Which ignites the flicker within the flame

A hand reaches out
Grasping for moonbeams
Like silent memories
From out of the past
Within the mind as if
Yesterday seems only
A thought away
Beyond such horizons
Searching the memories
Elusive ghosts
Clinging to the innermost
Recesses of the mind
There is a certain lonliness
Only the essence remains
Imagination of the laughter
Great words that were spoken
Words of wisdom
Yet it was taken for granted
Passing through my hands
Falling unto the earth
Like a great puzzle
Attempting to pick up the pieces
It sometimes eludes capture
Fading away
Dancing moonbeams
Teasing upon the water
Causing me to return once again
In search of the memories
That inhabit within

I have waited for thee
Pondering in reflection
By the waters edge
In the cool autumn breeze
As wings of birds
Carry my hopes across
Such darkened skies
Which kneel towards me
Glancing upon my cheek
In gesture of a gentle kiss
Melting into my heart
In the essence of time
My eyes seek
Looking for reassurance
Deep in my mind
I already know
My wait for you is in earnest
Yet this day belongs to me

Crowds gather in anticipation
Fluttering wings
Nervous feet shifting
Ear shattering noise
Reaching its pitch
Only the bleating of the mother
An obstacle to a feast
Upon the innocent
That which has fallen
Deserted by the flock
As it lay bare upon the ground
Before the masses
Ready to pounce
Yet the sheep call out
As the crows gather
Drawing closer
~
Momentarily the ewe stirs
Clumsily it stands
Awakening from unconsciousness
In its zeal she has fallen
No longer stunned
Returning to the waiting flock
Crows gasping in despair
At the loss
Quelling the fever of the pitch

A carpet of flowers that leads to a place
Where branches of trees like arms reach out
Towards all those who approach with gentle care
Cultures of trees like cultures of people
Of many races and many tongues
That flourish under the warmth of the sun
Stalks of wheat that reach to a sky
Until the day is given to the moon
A bouquet of flowers represents the many
Species who inhabit the earthen planet
Such is the variety of existence
In an endless journey over a horizon
Where time and distance have no rule

The conglomeration of lights
Dance about me
Some are bright
Others are dim
In the street walking great distances
Searching for something
Though I know not exactly what it is
Perhaps a lonely cat
Who just so happens to catch my eye
Or roosting pigeons
Who oddly huddle together
On a remote window ledge
Barely visible to a passerby
Sirens are heard in the distance
Then there is the hollow sound
Of the tires on the street
A light rain has finished
Now the streets are barely damp
I can feel the surface of the sidewalk
Grabbing at the soles of my shoes
Then there is the yaw in my heel
Followed by a familiar creak
Nobody gives any notice
It's after midnight
And the city slumbers
Yet here I am with my own thoughts
For with them I shall stay
In the city that slumbers
After midnight
On barely damp streets
After the rain

This is the end of the world as I know it
A breeze flows through my long fur
Behind me my master watches intensely
Focused on the mounts in the distance
Unaware of the surrounding resistance
The clouds as pillows
Some of which I have rested upon
In my daytime dreams
Odd as all this seems
I have brought my master to this place
Rather than him bringing me
What does he know of such places
Or of voices that rise from the sea
Feint echoes that ring out
It is far from silence to my ear
Hearing that which calls out to me
Upon these plateaus in the wind that blows

Small sparks go off inside my head
My energy draws them
In the meditation of my fixation
Overflowing thoughts revive
That which is inside
It has relied
On the interjection of flowing energy
That emanates from my soul
Such living things that enclose me
In their closeness I have come to know
A journey into places unfolded
On the path where few can go
Quickly things go by that are only meant to be seen
Kept unto myself for preservation
In my own determination
To see that such things continue free
In my deepest secrets
They can only be revealed
To those who have a zeal
Gifted with an ability to see

Reading the New York Times
In Central Park's chaos
Those dreams of billowing cloud forms
A thousand miles away
Under the tall pines
Feint odors of burnt diesel exhaust
Stinging the nostrils
Drills puncture the earth
Searching for oil
Fossil fuel muffles the sound
Of screaming dinosaurs
That drive the forces
Of scouring winds
Causing wilting flowers
That die in the autumn breeze
Upon the lake that's traveled
A swan's breath is seen
Forming in the mist
Of grappling fog embracing trees
Not far off are the quiet fields
Where myths are born
