"Annual Premonitions"

Don't know if my ear
Will listen to words that may be said
It's been well over a year
Suns have set,moons have risen
Many horizons have come and gone
Dusk has brought forth new visions
Of days bygone unto the dawn
All it takes is two steps forward
For me to make the call
The effort clearly for someone dearly
But can I scale the wall
If I could send a carrier pigeon
To send my message there
Surely it would would be set free
Or would be given care
It would be sent out to flight
Upon its wings of grace
To touch the clouds and feel the wind
To know the suns embrace

"Omega"

Spiral staircase that leads to nowhere
There is no beginning or an end
Those who walk it are in sackcloth
Ashes upon their heads
Not knowing whom they may offend
Trudging up the steps is hell
There is no sounding of the bell
Lessons never get imbibed
For all who trudge are circumscribed
Very few get off the staircase
But yes a few get free
Once they learn to discern
And clean up their debri

"Fragile Existence"

The world is so large
Yet I am so small
I cling to my life in his hands
I come from Sri Lanka
They call me a Loris
I'm much too fragile for demands
Prosimians we are long before apes
We usually lurk in the night
Although I am cute and endangered
I'm far from friendly and polite
If people keep going the way that they are
We won't be around much longer
Our exsistence depends on what people do
And whether our enviornment becomes stronger
All I want is to live and survive
It's not that much to ask
A little effort on everyone's part
To make it a sucessful task

"Places"

My boat is moored at the entrance
Of yet another dream in a place
Walking through the archway to corridors
Up to a winding staircase
That leads to a window which overlooks
Spacious clouds that float
Wandering thoughts that skip along
To places that are remote
To waken with feint memory
An essence of that place in my dream
The boat remains moored at its landing
Part of the memorized scheme
Awaiting for me to return once again
Through the glimpse in my eye
Floating past those who gloat
As an invisible butterfly
To the place where my dream awaits for me

"Hide & Seek"

Quietly peeking around the corner
Nobody knows I'm here
Hiding from them all until they call
The people in my heart so dear
I waited all day for them to come home
Soon they will call my name
Until they do I will hide from them
Playing my little game
Maybe they will give me a treat
Or scratch me on my head
I might even get to take a nap
With one of them on their bed
Life is good-life is fine
With all these friends of mine
I like to hide out in the hall
I'll hear my name when they call

"Return to Nature"

I want to be a frog once again
Be careful what you ask
Looking up from my watery place
Or in the sun while I bask
It looked inviting to be as them
From the other side of the pond
Woe is me for what I am
There is no longer the bond
Those sweet sound of others
In whom I regarded
As just others who lived in my midst
Taking them all for granted
In what I thought did exsist
Chirping crickets that put me to sleep
In the company of the others
Submerged in the water amongst lilypads
Romping with sisters and brothers
The sky does not look the same
Neither do the clouds or the sun
My wish was granted to my chagrin
It cannot be undone

"On the farm"

In Illinois down on my farm
Perched on a hill by my house
There is a view that none can surpass
This is my claim to espouse
On a summer day when crickets are chirping
With many clouds in the sky
I try to make out the faces in clouds
As birds occasionally fly
While I listen to the sound of the whippoorwill
Off in the distance of the trees
Deer graze in fields unconcerned
In the gentle summer breeze
Farms below me that dot the landscape
In silence of the time of day
A ruffled grouse vies for its mate
In the field by the trees that sway
Wild turkey down by the treeline
Unaware of my observation
It is in awe that I silently stare
At the wonder of all creation
As each day passes my appreciation
For the knowledge of which I am enhanced
Broader horizons of life in motion
Of the visions in which I am entranced
It is a greatful thing for me to live
The honor to participate
To leave my words for those who follow
In hopes they will appreciate
My words I bequeath unto them
As though my epitaph
My life was lived in constant change
On my own behalf
So that I might leave my words
For all to embrace

"Hard Times"

Say buddy can you spare some change
This ain't no story for a bottle of wine
On the corner there's a diner
My need is really genuine
A warm cup of soup is all I desire
A few crackers on the side
Just enough to keep me goin'
To keep my feet in stride
The bitter cold jus' got to me
I know it's not your fault
I'm just down on luck right now
Standing on asphalt
Askin' for a little help to get me on my way
Soon I'll fade from memory
And you can have the day
I'm not privy to livin' like this
To be in rough disdain
Thanks alot in advance mister
Then I must refrain
Another day-another dollar
Tomorrow will bring a chance
For me to make it one more day
To change my circumstance

"Messages"

Floating leaves upon a stream
In memory of a broken dream
Leaves are children of the trees
Dreams on whims that I must seize
If I were a tree of maple
Or possibly an oak
Heartfelt motion on a notion
Thoughts that would evoke
Movements in each season
As it came and went
Broken stems and flower petals
Messages they sent
In observance of disturbance
Unseen forces presence
Oaken thoughts as Maple's wrought
In Hickory fields of pleasance

"Silenced Gears"

Big wheels turned but now are still
No longer making their familiar hum
Oil no longer flows through its veins
Its body has grown numb
A vessel that carried life giving energy
Under moons that waxed and waned
In contrast now like a stencil
Its frozen gears abstained
Cut off from exsistence
No longer needed
Unbiased performances
Until it impeded
The needs of the fathers
Who decided to cease
Who sentenced the wheels to death
Their orders sent forth to the winds in the North
To cease the giant machines last breath
One last sigh in upheaval
It gives up the ghost
In premature burial
To the places of birth who placate in mirth
Unto those who are adversarial

"Maiden of the Field"

I am barren in the field
It is not yet harvest time
Fruit is still upon the tree
Flections in paradigm
Although in ripened form
I am in calm before the storm
A great peace is over me
In reflection of my nature
Day by day-season by season
In the great nomenclature
Of what I am part of
In the storm
In my own purity
When I transform
Upon the fields of golden wheat
It is nature I shall greet

"Past Lives of the Many"

My shattered panes have seen
The lives of many who passed
Workers who left sweat upon my floors
Who laughed and talked of dreams
Within these silent walls
In these shafts of light that permeate
Shallow corners of gathered dust
Broken plaster that defies the sun
Where is the noise that once had life
Within these silent walls
Echoes that carried laughter
Unfolding lives of people
Who gave their days in labor
So that I might live to feed them
With hope upon their souls
To realize untold dreams
Their hearts which flee from me
I am still standing here
Yet they no longer glance at my frame
Remembering not what occured
Within these silent walls
They have forgotten about such things
Migrating towards other forms of light
Decades shall pass until there are no more
Who exsisted within this place
All will remain standing in form
Within these silent walls

"Silent Fawn"

I lay in the death of my fawn
In the early parts of the dawn
Death is upon me
Like a merciless whore
My soul is dying within
Motionless in the forest
I am with thee
In conceivability you were born
Yet there will be none who will mourn
As your piercing will reveal
Life giving blood ebs from your wound
A throbbing heart beating
Struggles to keep the light within thy eye
As we both fade
A thousand deaths from those who strike
At the reiteration of innocence
That is laid upon the heap

"Ode To The Rosy Toed Wooly Worm"

Consider my plight when you next observe
My journey across the lonely road
I am the wooly worm in metamorphosis
And not just some lowly nematode
I have braved the elements of nature
Now on my final path
Soon I will be-something to see
If I can get past this wrath
When springtime comes I will emerge
A beautiful sight to behold
It all depends on the road ahead
Beyond the wheat fields of gold
Just one more road that I must cross
Then I am home free
To spin my cocoon and attach myself
In expected idiosyncrasy
For now I am at the mercy of nature
My present state of vulnerability
All depends on what fate sends
If I might reach the state of tranquility
Take notice to the crickets who chirp in the wild
Do not allow yourself to be beguiled
They give song both loud and long
From music they compiled
To this we dance across the road
Our final destiny of chosen fate
To the sound of the musical crickets we go
No longer will we procrastinate

"Held within my Hand"

One hand-one heart
Two hands-two hearts
This is my child
Flesh of my flesh
Bone of my bone
My efforts culminated
Into this tiny body
That will grow before my eyes
Into someone who is
More beautiful unto my eye
Than I can behold
More precious than
Diamonds or gold
It is my child born out of love
In likenes to the innocence
Of a pure white dove
My child's heart beats ever so clearly
Never has anything been so dearly
Resting in the palm of my hand

"Father & Daughter"

My father was always there for me
He used to take me by the hand
Down the paths we used to walk
Nearby the meadowland
Those were times that I cherish
In deepest thoughts on days
When I remember those precious times
My father's gentle ways
It was a time for both of us
To spend in open air
When he used to sing to me
His words that he would share
To give me visions of my own dreams
In those moments I relied
He helped to steer me down my path
In my heart he will abide
I will always walk with him
He will hold my hand
In reflexion-his affection
Has helped me to expand
I will pass this on to mine
So when they grow in knowing
Sweet memories they will have
Of all I am bestowing

"Chess Games"

I want to know his moves in chess
I sit here in my wonder
This is my second try today
In hopes that I won't blunder
It's more to me than just a game
I know this might sound bad
But I want to win so much
And finally show my dad
That I have learned what he has taught me
To make him highly proud
I want to hear his words of praise
In my ear aloud

"My little Child"

Whew! This kid is driving me nuts
He's finally gone to sleep
I wish they'd put him in another cage
So I could count some sheep
All he wants to do is play
And pull my hair and nose
I want to climb up in a tree
Where I can recompose
I swear this is the last one
I don't like my job
Don't mean to sound depressing
Or act like I'm a snob
I just want to get some rest
And wish that time would fly
So he could climb on his own
And learn how to comply

"Monster in the fog"

Glaring eyes cut through the fog
It is the iron monster lurking
What awaits at it's coming
It moves forward in a steady motion
Determined to make an impression
That will reside in my frontal lobe
Long after it has gone its own way
After suns have set and moons have risen
I will hear the sound of its coming
And remember the way it appeared
Only to forget
All that was ever feared
In silent memory I will recall
The lurking iron monster
And it's haunting call

"Pain"

A bitten lip in truth and pain
Standing in cold rain
Hardened nipples I refrain
From harmoniously dying
A thousand deaths
In all my sudden breaths
I reflect upon the thoughts
On wrought iron railings
On misty morns
Torn clothing cleaves
Unto my breast
In my regression
Of total depression
On fog filled streets
Where my mind meets
Familiar sights as my mind fights
Opressed libations in drunken dreams
Upon the mighty seas of pain
To utter distain in cruel remorse
My chaos has run its course
Selah!

"Always Returning to the Memory"

In solace I walk this darkened road
My burden is a heavy load
In daytime light I am in flight
In nightime darkness of fog
I have no monologue
No whisper reaches unto me
Dead silence is all around
Walking the road shuffling
Onward towards hallowed ground
Not to far off in the distance
Once stood a house I knew so well
Overgrown with weeds the place
That sits barren in negative space
It was the site where I had grown
Now there is only a single gravestone
To commemorate what once had thrived
It is I who barely survived
A fire claimed another life
It was the body of my wife
Who was with child never born
It is my bitter thorn
That I shall carry with me to the end

"Subway Jazz"

I kick out the jams in the subway tunnel
Echoes bounce off these walls
In answer to the music that resides inside
From this greatest of music halls
My saxophone grooves to the tune
Of crowds that shall come none too soon
People in transit to destinations
My music enters their souls
Like sweet libations
They got that little snap to their walk
In their stride there is no talk
Like a juggernaut in the great abyss
Struggling crowds cannot dismiss
In the masses my notes find their place
Within the people who steadily race
To the platform of the subway train

"Overwhelming Friendship"

They won't let me go
Even though
I was nice and fed them well
My mother is nowhere to be found
Although I loudly yell
First came one and then another
Until there was no more room
They ate all my food-now I'm in a mood
My day is filled with gloom
I don't know why they made me cry
Those birds are making a mess
One of them tried to bite me I think
Another has pooped on my dress

"Fickle Dog"

Want some problems?
I'll bite ya mister
Better walk right on by
I'm just sayin'- I'm not playin'
Better not even ask why
Your big shoes don't scare me
Neither does your voice when you talk
Don't you know what time this is?
It's time for my daily walk
Now go ahead-beat it mister
Before I take a bite out of crime
I don't like you-I don't want you
You hunk of overgrown slime
Is that a sausage your eating?
Oh your giving me a treat?
I sure am glad to make your acquaintance
I think your kind of neat
Hey-wanna be friends?

"Ivory and Ebony"

Ivory is lurking around on my head
Looking at her sister below
Ebony is looking for a way to get down
She sees her own shadow
Both of them go on their nightly mission
Once they are out of their cage
They want to get down and hide in my quilt
And that's the extent of their rage
It's the big deal on their agenda
That's all they want or require
To hide in the quilt and go to sleep
Is the end of their total desire
Nosy rats who want to be cuddled
And climb on top of my head
To make pests out of theirselves
Until they get on my bed

"Sisters"

Sometimes we can't stand
The sight of eachother
It's hard to believe that
We have the same mother
Unkind words are said
Which later bring great shame
Too much water under the bridge
From playing this silly game
In the end it always ends up
We cry on eachother's neck
What seemed to be a major issue
Merely becomes a speck
All we have is eachother
Our lives are tightly spun
We share a common heart in life
When all is said and done
Unkind words woefully said
As though we were not friends
How quickly things are said in anger
How quickly our heart mends

"Life's Work"

Have I done things right
Have I done things well
I have watched them grow up
I was there when they fell
When they thought I was not
I was really looking
Admiring their paces
Observing their faces
When they took their first steps
When I heard their first cry
When I gave thanks to that above
I vowed to personify
In my words of encouragement
To imbibe in their hearts
Character and Principle
Like fiery darts
To burn those things into their mind
As would such a member of mankind
Will they be able to fly on their own
I have done my best in all my work
I can only pray they will not stray
That they will not allow to lurk
Thoughts of glory or personal gain
Rather to give than to take
And to refrain
From all actions that will subtract from who they are
May my words go with them both near and far
They are my children-my everything
It is in their lives that I will sing

"Rising Man"

I must rise each day at dawn
To meet the challenge of the day
Light from the window that warms my skin
Molten earth hath turned to clay
Cars that honk in streets below
The turning world moves on
It is the dependable phenomenon
Wonder in all mens eyes
Whether they be foolish or wise
My days work must be done
Under the nurturing sun

"Blind Strollers"

They were made to walk by
To look at the piles
Of many corpses over the miles
Bodies strewn by the side of the road
In twisted positions stowed
They hid from our eyes with blank stares
In unawares
That our eyes though blank in expression
Knew of the aggression
That had been commited upon us
As we laid in the dust to decay
In an inhuman way
An entire race in denial
As they walk by in single file
Cursing the exsistence of their efforts
As evidence for a nation of people to see
Their capabilties towards human kind
In piles of human debri
The stench invades their noses
The vision invades their eyes
Though they were blind and deaf to it all
Their intentions they cannot disguise
A hand raised in fealty to the puppet master
Who proclaimed from high on the hill
Who gave a nation what it wanted most
Until it had gotten its fill

"Where Pig Iron Flowed"

Upwards through industrial pipes that are clanging
Clamoring spirits in my head are haranguing
They bounce off the pipes at lightning speed
Commiting theirselves to the very deed
Of keeping alive the old refinery
Where the tears of oil revolve
Screwing unions turn without oil
In centrifugal force that will not resolve
The building shifts on its artificial axis
Groaning smokestacks refuse to make claim
Like nimble fingers that reach for the sky
As though they were preparing to make shame
Skeletonized makeshift elevator shafts
Catwalks that drip with dog water
Iron slides down into the muck
Ready for the ingot slaughter
When it pours free from Besemers
Iron stammers in flow
Into the forms where it conforms
As the ingots lose their bright glow
A settling takes place in the disgrace
Sword beaten plowshares become weapons of war
Deep goes the clanging of the protruding pipes
Down to the very core
Where the transformation takes total control
Beyond the exsistence of the dark black hole
Shattering lives in a distant land
At the mercy of the cuckold command

"Above the Steeples"

Steeples cloaked in whitened clouds
As castles in the sky
Notes of music floating upwards
That meet the naked eye
Pious words are spoken from
The podium that lies within
Crowds of athiests attentively listen
To accusations of sin
There's no more room in heaven or hell
Entire masses of people
Have journeyed to the very gates
That lay beyond the steeple
Now they wander in the mountains
And float along in streams
In twilights end from dawn to dusk
Invading unborn dreams
They walk the streets in guarded cities
On roads in rural places
Tattered ghostly flagellants
Who have no legible faces

"Waiting for my Cat"

I sit here in darkness in waiting
For the moon to rise high in the sky
Stars will twinkle as I listen for my cat
To hear his familiar cry
He will sleep upon my quilt
Keeping me safe tonight
Its hard to sleep without him
My cat keeps away the fright
Without him its lonely
He is my friend
I talk to him in times of need
My cat listens to what I tell him
He never has disagreed
To what I have said
In the silence of my room
When nobody else will listen
Whether the moon in the sky is there
Even when the sun will glisten
True friends we are till the end
Its almost time for sleep
Just a wait for my friend to return
In silence my secrets will keep
